The Why & When of DXA

Should you wait until age 65 for your first bone density screening?

In the world of bone density screening, guidelines from the U. S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) are the gold standard for the why and when of conducting a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). The painless, non-invasive bone measurement test is a relied upon tool for predicting the short-term risk for osteoporotic fractures in women and men, particularly those of the hip and lumbar spine.
