Research shows exercise plus education as the key to cutting your chances of hip replacement.

Arthritis is often known for the physical limitations it can cause. Yet, evidence is building in the case of exercise altering the conditions impact.Case in point: Researchers have shown that exercise therapy may help avoid the need for total hip replacement in those with hip osteoarthritis (OA). Published in Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases (November 2013), the study showed that those who exercised for one hour at least twice a week for 12 weeks were 44 percent less likely to need hip replacement surgery six years later compared with a similar group of people who did not exercise.
