Copper and Magnets: Pain Relief Questioned
Although research says they donít work, millions of Americans ignore the evidence and depend on these unproven and unregulated products for relief.
Yet another study has debunked the notion that wearing copper or magnetic bracelets can ease the pain of osteoarthritis, but it doesnít seem to matter to a sizable percentage of arthritis and fibromyalgia patients. Decades of research have failed to make a connection between copper or magnetic bracelets and osteoarthritis, yet almost one in five arthritis and fibromyalgia patients have tried them, according to a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association. "I am not aware of any evidence that supports their use from a well designed clinical trial," says Thomas J. Morledge, MD, Medical Director, Wellness Institute, Cleveland Clinic.
