Before resorting to a hip or knee replacement, many people with osteoarthritis try corticosteroid injections to relieve pain and swelling in joints. Numerous studies have investigated the effectiveness of the supplements glucosamine and chondroitin for managing osteoarthritis, with conflicting findings. Radiofrequency ablation is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat chronic back pain caused by disk degeneration. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and acetaminophen are routinely used to ease pain of osteoarthritis.
