Arthritis can affect many common kitchen tasks. Nissanne Rassie, OTL, an occupational therapist at Cleveland Clinic, says individuals she treats often experience difficulty with grip strength due to hand arthritis or challenges related to reach and upper-body strength from shoulder arthritis. There are numerous tools designed to ease specific kitchen challenges. Rassie emphasizes the importance of teaching individuals how to find tools on their own, rather than prescribing a single solution. “It’s like teaching someone how to fish rather than giving them a fish,” Rassie explains.
