During acupuncture a practitioner inserts thin needles into specific points on the body to help relieve pain and improve function. Acupuncture has been around for a long time, and recently modern science has been showing it can be effective for treating arthritis. Clinical trials have shown that acupuncture offers modest improvement in pain and function compared to placebo or other standard therapies. “A holistic, integrative approach combining acupuncture and traditional medical treatments can allow people with arthritis to get the most out of treatment,” says Tim Sobo, MAOM, LAc, CES, CPT, Cleveland Clinic acupuncturist.
