Outlook Improves for Patients with Chronic Pain
New treatments and research offer hope for people battling the disabling condition known as chronic regional pain syndrome.
When you break an arm, sprain an ankle, or experience other limb trauma, your pain will typically resolve with treatment within a few weeks. Others who suffer such an injury develop chronic regional pain syndrome (CRPS), in which the pain continues well beyond the normal healing period. But new treatments and a better understanding of the condition are improving the outlook of CRPS patients. The key is to catch it early to avoid complications.
