Inflammatory arthritis can happen to many joints in the body. It typically presents with pain, stiffness and swollen joints that may be warm to the touch. “Inflammatory arthritis has effective treatments, but early treatment is important to preserve the joints,” says Cleveland Clinic rheumatologist Chad Deal, MD. Several types of inflammatory arthritis have different causes, presentations and test results. Three main groups of inflammatory arthritis are caused by autoimmune diseases or crystals accumulating in the joints or infections.
