Cleveland Clinic’s Comprehensive Pain Recovery Program aims to treat the whole person experiencing pain and includes a psychological approach in addition to medical and physical components. “We help patients really understand pain and how it’s being processed in our nervous system and in our brains. Then we provide research proven strategies that can be helpful in relaxing and calming the nervous system and can decrease some of that pain signaling, especially with chronic pain,” explains Cleveland Clinic pain psychologist Lauren Abshire, PsyD.
