Falling is a common cause of injury and death in people over 65. Those with arthritis have an increased fall risk due to pain, muscle weakness and joint stiffness, according to David Bailey, DPT, a Cleveland Clinic physical therapist. Winter presents extra challenges, especially during harsh weather. Common injuries from winter falls include bruises, broken bones, head injuries and soft tissue injuries such as sprains, strains and tears. Preparation can help prevent falls.
