Novel Therapeutic Strategies for Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is a common cause of joint disease affecting 500 million people worldwide. Current therapies for osteoarthritis (OA) often fail to halt progression of the disease. A June 2026 review published in Bone Research addresses recent precision medicine advances in OA treatment. The paper integrates evidence from clinical and pre-clinical studies of OA. Precision medicine factors in a person’s genetics, environment and lifestyle to deliver targeted interventions. Recent innovations focus on underlying pathophysiology, regenerative therapies, targeted anti-inflammatory agents and anti-aging methods, including elimination of bad cells or calming of cells so they stop causing inflammation. The paper addresses therapeutic limitations, unresolved gaps in knowledge and the emerging strategies required to advance disease-modifying therapy in OA.
