Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common problem with the nerve that runs from the shoulder to the hand. “Carpal tunnel is compression of the median nerve as it crosses from the wrist into the hand,” says Steven Maschke, MD, Cleveland Clinic orthopaedic surgeon. The compression can cause pain and tingling in the hands, and permanent damage if it’s not treated.
