RA: Early Diagnosis and Treatment Are Key

A delay of three months or more after the onset of rheumatoid arthritis symptoms may lead to more joint destruction.

Left untreated, rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can lead to bone and cartilage damage, joint deformities, and disability, warn a panel of experts from the U.S. and Europe. The panel recently established new guidelines to help diagnose and treat RA earlier. The new criteria could prevent thousands of people from developing this disabling late-stage disease.
