The decision to have back surgery is not necessarily clear-cut. Complicated surgery involving the spinal column carries risks not associated with more routine procedures. Before making that decision, its important that you ask some very specific questions. Sometimes, it is just as important that you be ready with follow-up queries. Here are some questions suggested by A. J. Cianflocco, MD, a physician at Cleveland Clinic who often helps patients make decisions before referring them to a surgeon.
