Psoriatic arthritis (PA) affects up to one-third of people with psoriasis, characterized by scaly, red, irritated patches of skin. PA can affect anyone of any age, causing sometimes debilitating joint pain and swelling. Although PA occurs only in people with psoriasis, its not always the cause of joint pain accompanying psoriasis. Therefore, you should seek a prompt evaluation to determine the source of the pain and to begin treatment early to combat PA and minimize its harmful effects on your joints, other areas of your body, and your quality of life.
