Theres good news if youre one of the 27 million Americans who suffer from osteoarthritis (OA): Scientists are developing therapies that could bring a whole new level of relief. These scientific breakthroughs might not hold a cure for arthritis, but theres hope-even expectations-that at least some of these new options could slow the progression of OA and actually reduce joint damage. "Though it could take years for these therapies to win approval, its encouraging to look ahead to treatments that may one day make treating osteoarthritis successful," says Elaine Husni, MD, MPH, director of Cleveland Clinics Department of Clinical Outcomes Research.
