Falling and breaking a hip is a traumatic experience. It’s more challenging to treat if you’ve had a total hip replacement and the break occurs around the implant. Periprosthetic hip fractures (“peri” means around and “prosthetic” refers to the implant) can occur anytime—soon after the surgery or even years later.
