Healing a Damaged Rotator Cuff

The cuff of tendons and muscles in your shoulder takes a beating throughout life, which may lead to damage.

Aching pain on the outside of your upper arm when you reach over your head or out to the side suggests a problem with a group of muscles and tendons in your shoulder called the rotator cuff. In addition to pain during the day, rotator cuff injuries also tend to cause pain at night, whether lying on your shoulder or not, says Cleveland Clinic orthopaedic surgeon Mark Schickendantz, MD.
